If you're craving a taste of genuine British cuisine, look no further than Oakenshaw Fisheries, a delightful fish and chips takeaway that stands as a beacon of culinary tradition. Nestled at 667 Bradford Rd, Oakenshaw, Bradford BD12 7DT, this charming establishment captures the very essence of Yorkshire and Lancashire fish and chip culture, transporting you back to a simpler time.
From the moment you step in, the welcoming atmosphere envelops you, making it clear that this is not just any takeaway. The hardworking staff, even when busy, are eager to serve with a smile, creating an experience that feels both personal and warm. Just like Dean, who praised the “absolutely the best fish” he’d had in a long time, you'll find that the service here matches the quality of the food on your plate.
At Oakenshaw Fisheries, you'll savor perfectly cooked fish that is not only moist and flaky but also encased in a light, crispy batter that speaks to the shop’s commitment to quality. Paul Birch echoes this sentiment, reminiscing about the “good quality fish and chips” reminiscent of the classic offerings from decades past. These are not just any chips; they are golden, crispy, and imbued with nostalgia, likely cooked in traditional dripping—a highlight that many modern establishments overlook. The satisfaction of biting into those chips will undoubtedly transport you back to your childhood.
Whether you opt for a generous portion of cod or perhaps the daily special, you'll be delighted by the sheer volume of food served, as emphasized by Stephanie Maria Branfoot, who found her Friday tea craving expertly satisfied with a delightful balance of fish and chips. Each bite is a celebration of well-prepared, wholesome food that delights not only the palate but also the soul.
Value for money is another hallmark of Oakenshaw Fisheries, as noted by customer danyal manouchehri, who found a large portion of cod and chips at an unbeatable price of just £6.50. It’s not just about feeding the hunger; it’s about offering an experience that feels like a well-kept secret waiting to be discovered—one that will leave you fully satisfied, with the freedom to season your meal just how you like it.
Overall, Oakenshaw Fisheries is not just a takeaway; it’s an experience steeped in rich tradition, exemplary service, and food that feels like it was made with care and passion. The strong community backing and love for what they serve ensure that every visit is a return to form for this classic staple of British dining.
So if you're looking to experience a slice of history with your meal, grab your favorite side of salt and vinegar, and head over to Oakenshaw Fisheries. Your taste buds will thank you!

Absolutely the best fish I've had in a very long time and the staff were so lovely despite being slightly busy with people waiting. Top marks to a proper Fish and Chip shop.

Good quality fish and chips in a setting that Yorkshire and Lancashire have seen since the 1950's. The fish cooked well, was moist and flakey, the batter was crispy with none of the slime inside that you get outside of the two counties. The chips tasted like those you remember as a child, probably cooked in dripping, not some nasty modern oil/fat substitute. In all a wonderful shop and a wonderful meal.

Just stumbled across this place on my way over from Manchester. Absolutely brilliant value for money. 6.50 for a big portion of cod and chips that tasted bang on and they let you put your own salt and vinegar on. Fully recommend
